MSRTP - Guidelines for Faculty

Dear Faculty,

Once again for Summer 2012, the UW School of Medicine is providing stipends of $4,500 for first year UW medical students to pursue a summer research project under the mentorship of a full-time UW/WWAMI faculty member through the Medical Student Research Training Program (MSRTP). Please see Guidelines for Faculty Mentors for full details.

If you are interested in submitting a project abstract for consideration, please use the template on page 5 of the Guidelines packet. E-mail your project description to flemingm@uw.edu by Friday, November 4, 2011.

Projects will be distributed to students by e-mail attachment as well as posted on a password protected website on or around Friday, November 18, 2011. Students will then begin contacting you to express their interest in your project and discuss the possibilities in greater detail.

Please remember that our 1st year students are located across seven WWAMI sites (2 in Eastern Washington, Spokane and Pullman; Laramie, Wyoming; Anchorage, Alaska; Bozeman, Montana; Moscow, Idaho; and Seattle) and we ask that you please make phone interviews available to students who are not in Seattle.

Once a student and mentor have decided to work together, an MSRTP application should be completed and submitted/postmarked prior to the January 20, 2012 deadline to Michelle Fleming at the address below. If you notify Michelle that your project is filled, she will note it on the website so students stop contacting you.

Michelle can be reached at 206.543.0922 and is happy to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your willingness and availability to mentor and support our students!
