The UWSOM is in the process of developing a new Center for Medical Education. The Center will serve all areas from undergraduate to graduate to continuing medical education and will coordinate activities in support of medical education at all UWSOM sites. In addition, the center will work to integrate a number of areas that have largely functioned in separate spheres (simulation, faculty development in support of teaching, etc.) and to enhance the development of a continuum of education, including advancing interprofessional collaboration and training.
The structure of the Center should provide a way to address all of these areas and to engage faculty and staff throughout the School in contributing to and learning in these areas. An oversight group will meet on a regular basis and will function at a high level in discussing activities and setting directions. The Center will also play an important role in the curriculum renewal, supporting those efforts. Therefore, having a cohesive, collaborative and well functioning Center structure becomes all the more important. The center will truly be a mechanism for thinking about education in creative ways, as well as for providing the basic support that goes along with an educational institution.
The Center for Medical Education will be the locus for faculty development that will support curriculum renewal.
