R ONC 695 – Clinical Cancer Management

Total Enrollment: 6
Max Credits:  8
Preceptor: Dr. Ermoian
Prerequisites:  Completion of Internal Medicine required third year clerkship, Third or Fourth Year Medical Student standing

We welcome medical students that have decided to pursue a radiation oncology residency or those that are interested in learning more about the field. Typically, rotations are 4-week blocks (2-week blocks upon request) during which medical students work with our faculty and residents and participate in our didactic sessions in a structured manner. Medical students will spend time at all our sites of practice including SCCA, Harborview, Childrens and the VA Hospital. It is an excellent opportunity to become familiar with the department and get a feel of our residency program.

Participation in the clinical management of patients with cancer, emphasizing a multi-modality approach. Includes clinical assessment, planning of radiation treatment, and follow-up evaluation of patients. Special procedures include three-dimensional treatment planning, implant brachytherapy and intraoperative radiation. Daily teaching conferences with faculty and residents. At the end of the rotation each student is expected to do a presentation at one of the didactic sessions.
