Alan is the Director of the Medical Student Counseling Service and a clinical psychologist with experience working in medical centers. He works with issues of depression, stress management, anxiety, and relationship problems using cognitive-behavioral and solution oriented techniques.

Joanne is a clinical social worker who works part-time for the School of Medicine Counseling Service and also works at the Women's Clinic at UWMC. She works with individuals and couples experiencing a range of concerns including stress, adjustment issues, anxiety, depression and relationship difficulties.


Mark Wicks, Ph.D., LICSW

Mark works with individuals and couples addresing issues of stress management, anxiety, and depression using cognitive behavioral and existential techniques. Before coming to the UW he counseled people coping with cancer, chronic illness, and end-of-life issues. He has an interest and background in meditation and offers weekly meditation sessions for students.

Ray Pastorino, PhD

Ray is a psychologist who works in the Family Practice Residency. He is the dedicated counselor available to meet with medical students at UAA as well as providing a number of group meetings and activities with students. Students may also access resources at the University of Alaska at Anchorage Student Counseling Center.

Jane is the designated WWAMI counselor for WSU/UI medical students. Her office is located in the WSU Student Counseling Service, Lighty Student Services Building, 280.Individual, couples, and group support are offered. Referral to a male counselor is available for students requesting it.

Cheryl Blank, Ph.D.

Cheryl is the designated contact for medical students seeking counseling. She either works with the student directly or refers him/her to one of the psychology interns working with her. WWAMI students can also access services through the University Counseling Center. A variety of wellness services are also available.

Laura Olson, MA, LPC

Laura is a licensed professional counselor who is contracted to provide counseling services to WWAMI medical students at the University of Wyoming. Her approach is brief, solution-oriented counseling and her special interests include career counseling and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Students may also access counseling resources at the University of Wyoming Counseling Center.

Jack Severinghaus, Ph.D.

Jack is a psychologist who has worked with health science students at WSU Spokane's Riverpoint Campus since 1995. He typically employs brief therapy approaches and primarily utilizes cognitive-behavioral techniques. His special interests include treating test anxiety as well as assisting with the emotional and professional development of graduate and health science students. He states that "it is an honor to help the next generation of health care professionals reach their goals."
