As a Level I adult and pediatric trauma center, Harborview Medical Center cares for some of the most complex orthopaedic injuries in the Pacific Northwest. The Orthopaedic Department is considered one of the leading orthopaedic services in the country. It has been consistently ranked in the top 12 in the country by

Patient care, teaching and research are all important components of the service, which provides a personalized approach to the orthopaedic needs of patients, including chronic and acute problems of the bone, joint, soft issue, tendons and ligaments, wound infections, sports injuries, comprehensive care of the those with amputations, traumatic injuries and fracture management.
Services include general orthopaedics, complex pelvic and acetabular fracture, a sports medicine program, as well as a hand clinic. The Dr. Sigvard T. Hansen Jr. Foot and Ankle Institute provides consultation and surgical procedures for complex foot and ankle reconstruction including genetic anomalies and traumatic injury. A podiatry service is also available through the institute.
A complex spine service is offered in conjunction with Harborview's department of Neurosurgery. This service treats injuries that result in severe damage to the spinal column, which often creates, compressed nerves, painful disc degeneration or abnormal movement and alignment of the spinal column.
Our orthopaedic surgery clinics work closely with physical and occupational therapy to meet the rehabilitation needs of patients.
