The Social Work Department at Harborview has staff that are available to assist patients from pre-surgical consultation and admission through discharge.
Social workers can help patients plan for home equipment needs, arrange home health care, and work with the patient and interdisciplinary team to develop the plan of care. They may also assist with determining insurance benefits for home care needs after leaving the hospital. Social workers can also assist with referrals and transfers to skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities.
Social workers work with the Department of Social and Health Services, Labor and Industries, Medicaid, Social Security and health coverage services on behalf of patients who need those services.
The Social Work Department utilizes more than 150 trained and experienced staff members who hold master’s of social work degrees and are registered, certified or licensed to practice in the state of Washington.
