Harborview Health Education Classes & Support Groups

Our sessions are available to patients, family, and community members. Some require pre-registration. Others marked with an asterisk* are open on a walk-in basis. All classes are free (a medication fee may apply for the Smoke-free program).

Please note: schedules are subject to change. To register for classes confirm dates and times, or learn what new offerings may be available, call, visit, or email the Patient and Family Resource Center. All classes and support groups meet at GEH 75 or 76.

Writing for Wellness

A focused and directed writing workshop for those who have experienced chronic illness, trauma, or any kind of loss.  Call 206-744-2000 to register!  Classes will be scheduled in the fall - four one and a half hour sessions (Mondays Noon to 1:30).

Support Group for Family and Friends of Persons with Mental Illness *

 
Saturdays 1:30 – 2:30 PM

Facilitated by Harborview’s social work staff. Come by and meet with others who can offer support and share information. Co-sponsored by the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). Meets in Room GEH75.



Epilepsy Education and Discussion *

 
Single sessions First Wednesdays:  6:30 - 8:00 pm
Learn about epilepsy, depression, and avoiding seizure triggers. Discussion follows a presentation. Co-sponsored by the Epilepsy Foundation Northwest and the Regional Epilepsy Center at Harborview. Meets in Room GEH75.


Better Breathers - *
Learn about COPD, Asthma


2nd & 4th Tuesdays 11:30 am-12:30 pm

Breathless with exercise? Coughing? Wheezing? Stop by and learn about your breathing. Ask an expert your questions related to control and management of Congestive Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and asthma.

Hepatitis C

Fourth Tuesdays 10-11:30 am

Learn more about Hepatitis C, what it is, what it does to people infected with the virus, and what treatments are currently being used.

Loss and Grief Support *

Single sessions on 2st & 3rd Wednesdays 3 - 4 pm

Stop in and learn how to identify and cope with feelings of loss, grief, and change in a small group setting. All are welcome. Facilitated by Harborview’s Spiritual Care staff.

Walk for Health

A three-week series will be held quarterly this fall.  Call 744-2000 for next sessions

Looking for a low-cost way to exercise? Learn helpful tips from a physical therapist, doctor, and dietitian. Must be able to walk one half mile, including stairs. Come wearing comfortable shoes and clothing (sorry, we cannot store your belongs during our group stroll).

Laughter Therapy Session *

Fridays 8 – 9 am weekly 

Laughter is therapeutic for your mental health and cardiovascular system. Join this session for happy healing. Held in Room GEH 75 or outdoors in good weather.

Depression Support Group *

Single sessions
 3rd Thursdays 3:30 – 4:30 pm


Want to find ways to feel better? Find out about signs and symptoms of increasing depression. Learn about “healthy” mental health skills, and share your experiences in a group setting.

Knitting for Wellness *

Sessions every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Tuesday, 12-1 pm

Join us and learn about how to knit for stress relief, health and fun. Bring your own needles and yarn, or borrow some from us.
