Thank you for your interest in supporting Harborview Medical Center. Contrary to what many people think, Harborview does not receive any operating funds from King County. We are a public, non-profit institution with a commitment to providing the highest quality care to patients from all walks of life. As such, we rely on the support of our generous community to help us meet the significant financial challenges we face. Thank you for your commitment to our mission.

Harborview Fund for Greatest Need
The Harborview Fund supports the essential medical services that Harborview Medical Center provides, including funds for patient care enhancement and social service programs. Harborview serves as a safety net by providing medical care to many of the region’s uninsured. As a national leader in emergency care and the only Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma and Burn Center serving Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, Harborview serves an important role in saving lives and treating life-threatening, complex, and debilitating conditions.

Harborview Mission of Caring Fund
The number of people without health insurance, or with low-paying Medicaid and Medicare coverage, continues to grow exponentially. A new fund, the Harborview Mission of Caring Fund, helps cover the cost of providing a safety net for these vulnerable populations, assuring top-quality health care to those in need, regardless of their ability to pay. In 2002, Harborview provided $47 million in charity care, about 30 percent of all hospital charity care in Washington state.

The Pediatric Literacy Fund helps support Harborview’s Pediatric Literacy Program which makes reading a part of every well-child visit for children birth to age 5. Primary care providers give each young patient a book that is age and developmentally appropriate. They also recommend reading aloud as part of daily care for all children.
