Local Hero Award to Dr. Michael Copass. Recognition for his commitment to community.

November

Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)
Full accreditation after completion of five-day survey. High praise from surveyors based on new tracer methodology.

Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI)
Patient safety program praised by IHI president, Dr. Donald Berwick, as national model following site visit by the “100,000 Lives Campaign.”

Nursing Spectrum
Nursing Excellence Award to Elizabeth McNamara-Aslin. Recognition for outstanding service and dedication to patients and the nursing profession.

King County Mental Health, Chemical Abuse and Dependency Services
2005 Exemplary Service Award for Direct Service. Recognition for promoting recovery by encouraging individuals to be actively involved in planning and leading their treatment and by offering services in a holistic manner.

Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities
High praise from surveyors after three-day survey of inpatient rehabilitation units at Harborview and UW Medical Center.

2005 Year in Review
National recognition for “Comfort Zone,” the architectural-scale fiber art work at the Patricia Steel Building.

Soros Foundation and Institute on Medicine as a Profession
Physician Advocacy Fellowship Award to Dr. Michelle Terry. Recognition for project to improve parenting by expanding home visits by nurses in King County.

May

American Association of Neurological Surgeons
Young Clinician Investigator Award to Dr. Gavin Britz. Recognition as “best and brightest” in both the clinical arena and the research field.

Congressional Health and Human Services
Medal of Honor Award. Recognition for increasing organ donation rate to 75 percent from 55 percent in 2004.
