Care Providers

David Camitta, MD
Internal Medicine

I am an avid guitar player, and enjoy all the outdoor activities the Pacific Northwest has to offer.  When I am not playing music, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, skiing and world adventure travel.

Patient Care Philosophy:
My relationship with a patient is a collaborative partnership for making well informed decisions involving the patient's health.  It is an honor to be involved in this relationship and to promote and maintain good health.

  • Medical Degree: Memorial University, Newfoundland, Canada
  • Residency: University of Cincinnati
  • Board Certification: American Board of Internal Medicine

Sue Hyde, MD

Pediatrics

I was born and raised in Seattle's North end. I was a teacher and an ad agency art director before becoming a physician. My spare time finds me reading, gardening, sewing, making jewelry or traveling. In my practice I take a special interest in the prevention and treatment of asthma.

Patient Care Philosophy:
I have the best job in the world. I love working with kids! I see myself as a partner with parents in helping their children grow from totally dependent newborns into independent, capable, healthy young adults.

  • Medical Degree: University of Washington
  • Residency: Children's Hospital, Oakland, CA
  • Board Certification: American Board of Pediatrics

Claire Jenkins, MD
Family Practice with Obstetrics

Like many folks drawn to the Pacific Northwest, I enjoy being outdoors - walking my dogs, gardening, skiing, or taking pictures of the beauty that surrounds us. My family and my faith are the anchors in my life.

Patient Care Philosophy:
My job is to listen to, teach, and encourage my patients to help promote healing and health. I delight in taking care of the whole family.
  • Medical Degree: Wake Forest School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC
  • Residency: Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, WA

Matthew Jaffy, MD
Family Practice with Obstetrics

In my free time, you will find me outside skiing, running or cycling. On cold and dreary days, I will probably be inside fiddling with my computer or reading a good book. My professional interests include health promotion and disease prevention, sports medicine and primary care research.

Patient Care Philosophy:
I love being a physician and could not imagine doing anything else. Developing long-term relationships with my patients is very important and I see our interactions as a partnership. I especially enjoy the practice of Family Medicine as it allows me to indulge my interest in a full spectrum on ages and medical issues.
  • Medical Degree: University of Washington
  • Residency: Saint Anthony Hospital, Denver, CO
  • Board Certification: American Board of Family Practice

Deborah Katz, MNS, RD, CDE, CD
Nutrition

As I Registered Dietician, I enjoy working with people of all ages and at all stages of life, from pregnancy to the unique needs of older patients. I am especially interested in how the foods we eat reflect who we are.

Patient Care Philosophy:
I believe that patients can play an active role in regaining and maintaining their health by making food choices that are compatible with both their lifestyle and specific nutritional needs.

  • Undergraduate Degree: University of Washington (Food Science and Nutrition)
  • Graduate Degree: Cornell University, Ithaca, NY (Clinical Nutrition)
  • Certifications: Registered, American Dietetics Association; Certified, Washington State Department of Health

Julie Mattson, MD
Family Practice

My medical interests encompass the broad scope of family medicine. I also speak Spanish and enjoy bridging the gap that can occur between people of different cultural backgrounds. My husband is an architect. When we are not working on our home in Seattle, we're usually exploring the region by kayak or by foot. I also enjoy photography and playing soccer.

Patient Care Philosophy:
I value working as a team with patients in making health care choices. I see my role to be the patient's educator, advisor, and advocate. The relationship I form with a patient and family best helps me to fulfill that role.

La Dra. Mattson habla espanol y le da gusto atender a gente de diferentes culturas.

  • Medical Degree: University of Virginia
  • Residency: University of Washington
  • Board Certification: American Board of Family Practice

Betsy O'Kane, MD

My husband and I are fortunate enough to have 2 wonderful children.  He is the Head Team Doctor for the UW athletes, so we  frequently attend UW sporting events and are active supporters of athletics both in our leisure time and in our medical practices.   As a family we enjoy skiing, swimming and biking.

Patient Care Philosophy:
I try to encourage partnerships with my patients so we can develop individualized plans in which they play an active role in achieving their health care goals.

Yaquta Patni, MD
Family Practice with Geriatrics

My life revolves around my family.  We love to explore together.  In the last year our explorations have led us to take up chess, piano, and skiing.  I have no idea what to expect for next year but I'm looking forward to it!

Patient Care Philosophy:  I believe that most diseases affect not only the individual but involve the whole family.  My goal is to provide integrative care that is evidence-based and consistent with the patient's goals and beliefs.  I work in collaboration with the patient, family, physician consultants and other health professionals to promote health, stabilize chronic conditions, and maximize independence.  I am also trained and board certified in geriatric medicine.

Sarah Simpson, MD
Internal Medicine

I am an energetic, outgoing mother of three teenagers who loves gardening, singing, knitting and the theater. Our family has long-standing ties to the Pacific Northwest and I completed my undergraduate degree at Seattle Pacific University. I have enjoyed teaching student doctors at both the University of Iowa and Yale, and now am delighted to be with UW Medicine Shoreline Clinic. My specialty of internal medicine allows me to focus on a full range of health issues in adults.

Patient Care Philosophy:
Listening to my patient's agenda for the visit helps me align myself with his or her values and beliefs about health and illness. Good communication is the key to a productive encounter between patient and doctor.
