Health Sciences Center Speakers Program

The Interpreter Services Department was formed in 1994 to meet the needs of patients and families with communication limitations at UW Medical Center.
The department has provided interpretations in 69 languages. In addition, departmental staff coordinates translations in various languages, including Braille, and can arrange for audiocassette transcriptions.
We provide interpreters at no charge upon request for patients who do not speak English or have limited English proficiency and for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind. For more information, call 206-598-4225.

Two Outpatient Pharmacy locations:
- Surgery Pavilion Pharmacy, SP-2260
Hours: M – F, 8 a.m. – 6:30 pm. Clinic patients with prescription needs will receive faster service at this location.
After hours, weekends, and holidays use the 1st Floor Pharmacy at EA-151.
- 1st Floor Pharmacy, EA-151
For newly discharged patients and Emergency Room patients. When Surgery Pavilion Pharmacy is closed, this pharmacy is open 24 hours a day, seven days per week.

The UW Medical Center Service League is a non-profit agency, governed by a volunteer board of directors, that serves as an umbrella organization for the medical center's volunteers. The Service League advances and promotes medical center programs and patient care services through fund development and allocation, community outreach, and volunteer program enhancement. UW Medical Center is committed to providing a safe, smoke-free environment for patients, visitors, and staff members. The entire medical center is designated as a nonsmoking area. There are designated smoking areas outside the medical center for visitors and patients who are able to walk or use a wheelchair.
Patients and visitors at UW Medical Center at Roosevelt are asked to smoke at the south side of the building.

The main medical center telephone number is 206-598-3300. Incoming calls to patients are connected to their rooms.
UW Medical Center provides a variety of adaptive equipment for patients who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, or who have speech impairments. TTYs (regular print, large print visual display, Braille), amplified headsets, flashing light and vibrating phone alert signalers, and TV decoders are available. To request adaptive equipment, call 206-598-6993.
Public telephones are located on each floor of the medical center and in the main lobby. TTY pay phones are available in the medical center's lobby on the third floor and in the second floor east entrance.
The main number for UW Medical Center at Roosevelt is 206-598-5700. There are public telephones in the lobby (first floor), including one that is TTY-accessible.

Visitors' lounges are conveniently located near each inpatient nursing unit. Waiting rooms for patients and visitors are also available in the Emergency Medicine Service, in each outpatient clinic, and in the main lobby.
Family members or friends waiting for a patient in surgery may use the second floor surgery waiting lounge. Volunteers are usually at the information desk Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will let waiting family members or friends know when the patient is out of surgery and transferred to an inpatient room.
