Position Summary
The Practice Advisor works in collaboration with UWP’s key partners to provide practice analysis as it relates to member physicians’ practices, participates in enterprise-wide quality and performance improvement initiatives and serves as the interface between the physicians and UWP’s medical center partners. The Practice Advisor will provide professional benchmarking, analysis and performance management strategies as they relate to the members’ practices.
In addition, each Practice Advisor serves as the liaison between UWP and individual Clinical Departments. The Practice Advisor is expected to achieve high client satisfaction by building relationships with Clinical Departments that demonstrate a keen understanding of the specific business lines provided within the Department. He/she will monitor the revenue cycle performance of the Department, perform analysis to identify Departmental or individual provider performance trends, and address specific billing and collection questions to resolution.
The Practice Advisor also oversees various and diverse performance improvement projects of a highly complex nature: in some cases by individually carrying out the investigation and taking the necessary actions, but in other cases assembling project teams, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing a schedule to ensure timely completion of projects. The Practice Advisor will routinely work with Decision Support and communicate with senior management and/or functional area managers regarding status of key issues and specific projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
|
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business, mathematics, industrial engineering, health administration, or other relevant process oriented or analytical discipline.
- Master’s degree in Business or Health Administration, preferred.

Experience:
|
- Two years experience working with physician billing and reimbursement and/or medical clinic management.
|
| Certifications/Licensure Requirements: |
- None required. Professional medical coding certification helpful.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
|
- Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT-4, and medical documentation requirements, including Teaching Physician guidelines.
- Knowledge of professional billing/revenue cycle management.
- Knowledge of process improvement methodologies.
- Experience with professional billing software required; knowledge of Epic, preferred
- Proficiency with Windows based software (Viso/ MS Project) and Microsoft Office Suite products in a network environment.
- Strong analytical and financial skills
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey a positive and professional image in person, and to interact effectively with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
- Ability to meet deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain excellent teamwork relationships with UWP’s key partners including assigned Clinical Departments, and UWP departments.
- Solve complex questions and projects.
- Monitor financial and operational performance of clients and perform analysis to identify trends and answer specific questions.
- Provide timely, accurate, and professional responses to questions and concerns.
- Provide professional consultative services for strategic planning and implementation of process improvement events.
- In concert with project sponsors, assess and identify problems and opportunities, assemble project/ improvement team, identify appropriate resources needed, and develop schedule to ensure timely completion of improvement projects.
- Advance the organization’s ability to meet and exceed key strategic initiatives.
- Work effectively with staff, outside parties, and management to pursue innovative ideas for identifying opportunities that will improve organizational effectiveness and operational performance.
- Perform root-cause analysis to make process improvement decisions and implement change.
- Evaluate current workflows and processes with a critical eye and develop proposals for improvement.
- Understand and analyze system connections and impacts, both internal and external, for a large healthcare organization.
- Compile, code categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit or verify information or data.
- Assist with market analysis.
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions
Must be able to perform work, with or without accommodation, within a normal office environment involving sitting, standing, keyboarding, and occasional reaching, stretching, bending, moving about, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
