Professional ethics and integrity in the workplace are vital to UW Medicine’s shared mission of exemplary patient care, teaching and research. As employees of a public agency, we must be accountable to our constituents, the public and the people we serve.
Since 2000, all components of UW Medicine-- the practice plans, UWMC, Harborview, and the School of Medicine—have established compliance offices. Collectively, these offices are responsible for development, implementation, monitoring and revision of the compliance programs across UW Medicine. Compliance directors meet monthly with the UW Medicine Board Compliance Committee which provides oversight and governance on issues related to ethics, compliance and federal and state regulations.
Each individual within UW Medicine is responsible for professional ethics, integrity, and compliance within the scope of his or her activities. Individual responsibility includes maintaining current knowledge of rules and regulations, complying with the rules, acting in a professional manner, and contacting the appropriate office when questions or concerns about compliance issues arise.
Compliance directors assist faculty and staff in meeting their individual compliance responsibilities by addressing questions or concerns related to professional ethics, integrity, and compliance at UW Medicine. They also investigate alleged incidents of noncompliance and ensure that corrective actions are completed. If you need assistance or advice, please contact a Compliance Director.
