The UW School of Medicine trains doctors, physician assistants, researchers and other compassionate health-care professionals. And it is recognized for its expertise: the School is consistently ranked No. 1 in primary care (with high rankings in other specialties) in annual ratings from
U.S. News & World Report.
Still, recruiting and retaining students can be challenging — in part because of the expense of a medical education. An M.D. degree from the UW costs more than $170,000, and 93 percent of our students graduate with medical-school debt. A full 72 percent graduate with $100,000 or more in debt.
By giving to scholarships and student support funds, our donors offer a solution. These funds allow more students to afford medical school, they allow the school to
maintain its commitment to diversity, and they let graduates look beyond debt to consider vital but lower-paying medical careers like primary care, rural practice and academic medicine.
If you are interested in supporting students, or in joining our
scholarship and student support committee, please contact Caroline Anderson, assistant vice president for advancement, at 206.221.2899 or
cmanders@uw.edu. Thank you for your interest in the future of medicine.
