UW Medicine physicians at the 'top'

More than 90 UW Medicine doctors were recently recognized as “Top Docs” by Seattle magazine in the July 2011 issue.

Hand surgeon Doug Hanel and neurosurgeon Richard Ellenbogen, both based at Harborview Medical Center, made Seattle magazine’s Top Doctors Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame doctors—only nine in the Puget Sound area—have landed on the Top Doctors list ten years.

Indepth stories in the Top Docs issue feature UW Medicine physicians Kyra Becker, Leslie Walker—based at Seattle Children’s—Barbara Goff and Andrew Saxon—based at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

Treatment breakthrough features include Kris Moe’s work on brain surgery via the eye socket and Alex Cahana’s leadership as a senior partner in the U.S. Army’s Defense Management Pain Initiative.

Seattle magazine collaborated with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. to create the survey. All licensed physicians in King County and portions of Snohomish, Kitsap and Pierce counties were invited to nominate peers through a special website. With the support of the marketing staffs at hospitals in the Seattle area, participants submitted 6,511 nominations.

Many UW Medicine physicians who are based at other facilities—including Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Seattle Children’s, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and VA Puget Sound Health Care System—were also recognized in the Top Docs surveys.
