Health Sciences/UW Medicine News, Community Relations and Marketing (NCRM) plays a leading role in communicating the advances at the UW Health Sciences, and in marketing the services of UW Medicine, including its two teaching hospitals, Harborview Medical Center and Universityof Washington Medical Center, Neighborhood Clinics, Eastside Specialty Center and UW Physicians.
Media Relations
Our office provides media relations for all the UW health sciences schools -- Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health -- as well as for several health institutes at the UW. Our goal is to help news reporters and the public better understand medicine, nursing, public health, and other areas and learn how our researchers, educators, providers, and students work for the health of people everywhere: locally, regionally in Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho; nationally, and internationally.
We also participate in crisis and disaster communications.
Media relations staff members are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours, on weekends and holidays, staff members are on call for breaking news and emergencies.
Marketing
Our marketing efforts support the goals of the institutions within UW Medicine. We communicate the mission and expertise of health-care professionals at Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, and the UW Neighborhood Clinics through a wide range of activities. We convey news on medical advances and treatment options to primary-care and specialty physicians throughout the region.
Community Outreach
Our staff educates and informs the public through a number of programs and events, including the Health Sciences Open House, the Mini-Med School, tours for school groups, openings and receptions, and presentations to civic groups.
Internal Communications
We relay information in a variety of ways to UW health sciences faculty, staff, and students through print and electronic communications.
Publications
We produce several publications, including periodicals,directories, and brochures, for patients, physicians and community leaders.
Web
We develop and maintain the UW Medicine Web site.
