Through the leadership of the King County Executive, County Council and voter support, Harborview Medical Center has expanded its specialty services and is continuing its mission through the new Ninth & Jefferson Building (NJB), a 14-story building located across the street from the main medical center.

Positioned on the eastern crest of the hill along Ninth Avenue, the building is bordered by Terry, James and Jefferson streets and serves as a new gateway to the Harborview campus.
NJB houses expanded specialty services such as, the Eye Institute, Global Health, Institute for Simulation and Interprofessional Studies (ISIS), Neurosciences, Otolaryngology, Orthopaedics, UW Medicine Sports and Spine Center and the Sleep Institute.
UW School of Medicine is expanding research space to continue its mission of discovery. Additionally, vital King County services are located in this new building on campus, along with retail businesses.
The 440,000-square-foot building was designed to complement others on the Harborview campus. The entrance to the building’s underground 650-space parking garage is located on Terry Avenue, on the building’s east side.
The exterior is a combination of the classic Harborview brick at the base with recessed window openings and granite columns on the street level.
The Ninth & Jefferson Building is financed through a unique public-private partnership.
