UW Medicine neurological surgeons have developed a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary service to diagnose and treat complex conditions of the brain. The team, based at Harborview and UW Medical Center, is among the busiest facilities in the state and treat some of the most complex neurological surgical problems.

Neurological and orthopaedic surgeons collaborate to care for patients with complex, high-risk spinal problems, such as deformities, injuries or degenerative diseases, using surgical intervention to correct spinal maladies treated by the complex spine service.

The UW Medicine Gamma Knife Center at Harborview provides radiosurgical intervention for certain tumors, lesions and abnormalities. Gamma knife provides some patients with a nonsurgical option for treating certain anomalies and recurrent tumors.

Harborview is a leader in utilizing innovative techniques to treat movement disorders including Parkinson's and Essential Tremor using surgically implanted adaptive devices, as well as other treatments.

The UW Medicine Stroke Center at Harborview is certified as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and staffed by specialists who have dedicated their careers to stroke care and stroke discovery. Stroke specialists and neuroradiologists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide patient care.

The UW Medicine Regional Epilepsy Center at Harborview provides some of the most sophisticated medical and surgical interventions for individuals suffering from severe seizure disorders. Services includes diagnosis and treatment for seizures and psychoseizures; drug and surgical intervention, as appropriate; and follow-up, including rehabilitation and vocational counseling.
