Social Work

Social workers are available to patients and their families and friends to provide emotional support and answer questions. They help sort through the steps for a patient’s care from admission to discharge.

Social workers can:
  • Work with the patient and interdisciplinary team to develop a plan of care
  • Help patients plan for home equipment needs
  • Arrange home health care
  • Assist with determining insurance benefits for home care needs upon discharge
  • Assist with referrals and transfers to skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities
  • Work with the health coverage services on behalf of patients
  • Address concerns, such as chemical dependency and domestic violence
  • Connect patients and families with resources available to help
The Harborview social work team is made up of 150 trained and experienced staff members with master’s degrees in social work who are also registered, certified or licensed to practice in Washington.

Any member of your health-care team can connect you to the social workers.
