Why should I see doctors from the General Internal Medicine Center?
General Internal Medicine Center physicians are experts in various specialty services, including the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, hypertension, aging, dementia, and infectious diseases, among others.
Two specialty clinics operate within the General Internal Medicine Center, the Geriatric and Family Services Clinic and the Virology Clinic, which provides services to individuals with HIV/AIDS.
May I see a medical resident for my primary care?
General internal medicine residents on our health-care team are licensed physicians who must complete a three-year training program that includes both hospital and clinic experience. Each of our residents is responsible for a small group of patients. These patients receive their primary care from the resident, under the close supervision of one of our senior physicians.
May I see a nurse practitioner for my primary care?
Primary care services are also available from advanced registered nurse practitioners. These practitioners are specially trained and experienced in providing primary care services, including the diagnosis and treatment of urgent health problems. The nurse practitioners also offer special services, such as smoking cessation programs. You may choose one of our nurse practitioners to be your primary care provider, or you may obtain urgent care services from a nurse practitioner if your regular doctor is not available to see you.
