Specialty Services
Most of the General Internal Medicine Center physicians have the expertise to provide various specialty services. These include the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, hypertension, aging, dementia, and infectious diseases, among others.
Two specialty clinics operate within the General Internal Medicine Center. These are the Geriatric and Family Services Clinic and the Virology Clinic, which provides services to individuals with HIV/AIDS.
We also have general internal medicine residents on our health-care team. These licensed physicians complete a three-year training program that includes hospital and clinic experience. Each of our residents is responsible for a small group of patients. These patients receive their primary care from the resident, under the close supervision of one of our senior physicians.
Nurse Practitioners
Primary care services are also available from advanced registered nurse practitioners. These practitioners are specially trained and experienced in providing primary care services, including the diagnosis and treatment of urgent health problems. The nurse practitioners also offer special services, such as smoking cessation programs.
You may choose one of our nurse practitioners to be your primary care provider, or you may obtain urgent care services from a nurse practitioner if your regular doctor is not available to see you.
Other Team Members
We believe that personalized care is important, so we have assigned our medical assistants and registered nurses to work closely with specific doctors and nurse practitioners as part of our health- care team.
We encourage you to get to know your nurse and medical assistant, and to call them if you have questions about your care. They will respond promptly, and will help you talk directly with your physician or nurse practitioner when necessary.
