Women's Health Care Center

Specialty Services

Our staff includes general internal medicine doctors, surgeons, cardiologists, obstetrician-gynecologists, and nurse practitioners. All of our providers have a special interest in women's health, including wellness and preventive health care, menstrual problems, birth control, STD prevention, and menopause.

In addition, we offer easy access to many special services:

Breast cancer education, screening, and diagnosis

Our specialty team is available to evaluate a wide variety of breast problems, including second opinions. Referrals for diagnostic tests are facilitated through our coordinators. UW surgeons are available to perform biopsies and discuss treatment options as needed. For more information, ask for the Breast Health Center when making your appointment.

Specialized gynecological services

If you need more than primary care, our physicians can provide a broad range of specialized services, including follow-up evaluation and treatment for abnormal Pap tests, colposcopy, biopsies, and treatment of endometriosis, vaginitis, abnormal bleeding, and other gynecologic issues.

Heart health

At the Women’s Health Care Center, women can now consult with a UW cardiologist with specific expertise in women’s heart disease. We will provide treatment for heart disease with a focus on prevention — cholesterol management, blood pressure control, and other approaches to maximizing heart health. She will also provide treatment for patients with established coronary artery disease (secondary prevention), and treatment for heart valve disorders. Patients requiring stress tests or echocardiograms will be referred to the UW Medicine Regional Heart Center at UW Medical Center, a five-minute shuttle ride away.

Mental health

Women today lead complex lives, trying to balance their private and personal responsibilities. Talking with a mental health practitioner and learning how to cope with and reduce stress can make life easier. Our center offers a variety of assessment, crisis intervention, and short-term counseling services.

Nutrition

What you eat -- and don't eat -- can definitely affect your health, both now and in the future. In addition to the nutrition advice provided by our doctors and nurses, we have a dietitian available to consult with you on ways to improve your diet.

Fitness

One of the special features at UW Medical Center at Roosevelt is an Exercise Training Center, which offers a universal gym, state-of-the-art exercise equipment and classes, and a new metabolic assessment program.
