Pulmonary "Chest" Clinic at Harborview

The Pulmonary (Chest / Respiratory) Clinic at Harborview provides services which include the evaluation and education of patients with pulmonary and respiratory related diseases, such as asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asbestosis, lung cancer, sarcoidosis, pulmonary fibrosis and pleurisy. Smoking cessation assistance, pulmonary function testing, fiberoptic bronchoscopy and thoracentesis services are also available.

Special Services

  • Patient care coordinator assists with the delivery of medical care and access to health care. This may include accessing resources, scheduling appointments, and addressing financial and insurance concerns as needed.
  • Pharmacists assist with medication management, smoking cessation, and education.
  • Respiratory therapists evaluate home care requirements such as oxygen, C-PAP/B-PAP.
  • Social workers assist with accessing community resources and financial support.

Harborview's Patient and Family Resource Center offers classes and resources in the management of chronic diseases, including asthma, and smoking cessation classes and support groups. Contact the Patient and Family Resource Center for further information or to register for services.

Related services for lung care are available at our primary care clinics, such as Adult Medicine (asthma management) and the Harborview Occupational and Environmental Medicine Clinic. Diagnostic services include a Pulmonary Function Laboratory and Radiology Services. The full services of UW Medicine are also available for other specialty services or hospitalization.

Appointments and Referrals

Appointments may be made by calling the Scheduling Coordinator (number listed below).

Patients on managed care plans should preferably be referred by a primary care provider. Patients may be referred by a primary care provider who will schedule initial visits and assessments. Self-referrals are acceptable in certain circumstances.
