Harborview Department of Rehabilitation Medicine's Hand Therapy Service provides rehabilitation of upper extremity traumatic and cumulative stress injuries.
Typical diagnoses seen include tendon injuries, fractures of the upper extremities, and surgical reconstruction, as well as repetitive use syndromes (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome).
Special services include:
- Exercise
- Splinting (static, dynamic and static-progressive)
- Manual Therapy
- Post surgical rehabilitation
- Use of a variety of modalities (heat, cold, paraffin, electrical stimulation)
- Preparation for return to work services may include outside referrals for skills (after initial assessment)
- Internal referral to facilitate comprehensive rehabilitation management and work issues.
- Health education is available for a variety of conditions, either in the clinic or in Harborview's Patient and Family Education Center.
The Harborview Hand Therapy Service sees patients at the first floor West Clinic wing, adjacent to the Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic.
