Patient Care » Medical Specialties » Interventional Radiology
UW Medical Center Facility
1959 NE Pacific / Seattle, WA / 206-598-3300

Although interventional radiology techniques are minimally invasive and cause little in the way of discomfort or risk, they are still major procedures that require careful patient selection and diligent follow-up up care.

The interventional radiology group takes these clinical responsibilities very seriously.

Patients seen in the Interventional Radiology Clinic include those being considered for, or having already undergone

  • Fibroid embolization
  • TIPS
  • Chemoembolization
  • Radiofrequency ablation
  • Vein ablations, and
  • Treatment of vascular malformations (among others).

When appropriate, IR clinic staff may arrange consultations or referrals with other medical center staff in areas such as gynecology, gastroenterology, oncology, and vascular surgery.

For procedures that require general anesthesia, a visit to the IR clinic may be coordinated with a visit to the Anesthesia Clinic.
