Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery


Marc D. Coltrera joined the department in 1988 following a two-year head and neck oncology fellowship at the University of Washington. He received his otolaryngology training at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Dr. Coltrera is responsible for clinical teaching at the Seattle Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System and UW Medical Center. He is co-director of the Head and Neck Surgery fellowship. His research interests center on cell cycle control in normal and malignant cells. He holds an NIH grant for investigation of tumor cell kinetics. His laboratory work commonly employs de novo monoclonal antibody generation, cell culture, and molecular biologic approaches for the study of cell cycle control.

In addition to basic science research, Dr. Coltrera is developing software tools for multi-user database systems designed for use in community-based practice environments as well as for use in university-based studies. Software development is primarily aimed at supporting the quality of life research efforts which are on-going at the University of Washington.
