Mark E. Whipple joined the faculty in October 2001 as an acting assistant professor.
Dr. Whipple graduated from Stanford University and earned his M.D. degree from the University of Washington. He completed his residency in otolaryngology - head and neck surgery at the University of Illinois-Chicago in June 1996. He was in private practice in Fairbanks, Alaska for three years before completing a Master's degree in medical informatics at MIT and a research fellowship in bioinformatics at Harvard University.
Dr. Whipple's clinical practice focuses on general otolaryngology at UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center. He also serves on the University of Washington School of Medicine college faculty and is co-director of the BioCommons Computing Center at the University of Washington. His current research includes bioinformatics tools for microarray analysis, functional genomics of head and neck cancer, and computer-based systems for radiation therapy of head and neck tumors.
