Nicole Maronian joined the faculty in July, 1999 as an assistant professor. She received her medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1991 and completed her residency at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital in 1998 and a fellowship in laryngology in 1999.

Dr. Maronian's clinical interests include laryngology and voice disorders, sleep apnea, head and neck cancer, and general otolaryngology.

Dr. Maronian's primary site of practice is at UW Medical Center. She is responsible for the consult service at the University of Washington and is director of residency training.

Expertise:

  • The full spectrum of laryngology/voice disorders, including neurolaryngology, laryngeal and tracheal stenosis, vocal cord paralysis/paresis, swallowing disorders, and care of the professional voice.
  • Surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea  and snoring
  • Head and neck oncology, with a primary focus on laryngeal pathology
  • General otolarynogology.

Research Interests:

  • Spasmodic dysphonia: identification of involved muscles and treatment paradigms
  • Effect of cidofovir on laryngeal papillomatosis
  • Surgical biopsy and fungal sinusitis
  • Development of a direct subglottic pressure/laryngeal resistance measurement in normal subjects and patients with laryngeal disorders.

Grant Funding:

Royal Research Fund Grant 2002-04 investigating the measurement of subglottic pressure in normal subjects and patients with laryngeal disorders
