POSITION SUMMARY: The Network/Server Supervisor works closely with other Systems Administrators and Information Systems staff to develop and support enterprise infrastructure. This is a hybrid supervisory/engineering position that will be expected to provide guidance, supervision and leadership as directed by the Systems Manager to the network and server team on a daily basis as well as providing and implementing technical solutions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises the network and server team and resources to meet the needs of the UW medicine customer groups. Works with all levels of users and management to ensure the system meets the needs of the enterprise organization.
- Provides technology evaluations, planning, and project management for major upgrades, conversions and new system implementations.
- Provides system monitoring, data analysis, enhancement recommendations and implementations for system issues.
- Develops security standards and audits for compliance. Analyzes, prioritizes and mitigates security risks, including the design, implementation and ongoing operations of an enterprise class intrusion detection system.
- Develops procedures, documentation and standards for the Network/Server team.
- Provides lead and or backup administration for the organization’s enterprise systems.
- Promotes personal development and system cross-training within the Network/Server team. Develops and maintains redundant knowledge within the team for all systems.
- Shared responsibility for on-call infrastructure coverage.
- Evening and weekend work is required. This will be scheduled in advance whenever possible.
- Other duties or project work as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
- 2-3 years of supervisory experience managing systems engineers.
- 5-10 years hands-on experience with Intel server hardware, storage subsystems and backup systems.
- 5-10 years of hands-on systems and network administration experience in a diverse enterprise computing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of MS Windows Server configuration and administration, including TCP/IP networking and protocols is required.
- Strong project management and mentoring skills.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and highly organized skill set.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to convey a positive and professional image in person, on the telephone and in correspondence.
