High School Genome Program
This program for high school teachers provides professional development in the fields of DNA sequencing, genomics, and bioethics. Educators are provided with the necessary training, equipment, and supplies to conduct DNA sequencing in their classrooms. This program also features a Summer Institute for teachers and scientists from other regions who are interested in developing DNA sequencing in their communities, and a 6-8 week research experience available to teachers interested in working inside a University of Washington lab.
StarNet Teacher Research Experience
StarNet is a program funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and administered by the High School Human Genome Program at the University of Washington. The Teacher Research Experience allows high school teachers to learn more about drug abuse research by working for 6 - 8 weeks in a University of Washington laboratory.
Summer Institute for Middle School and High School Science Teachers
STI is a summer professional development opportunity for science teachers interested in increasing their knowledge of Biomaterials and Bioengineering, and providing cutting-edge, inquiry-based science materials for their students.
The GENETICS Project (K-12 Educators)
The GENETICS Project fosters excellence in the teaching of genetics in the state of Washington from Kindergarten through 12th grade by providing professional development for elementary, middle, and high school teachers. This project offers a 5-day genetics workshop for high school teachers in the summer, a 3-day workshop for middle school teachers, and workshops for other grade levels throughout the year.
