The Nancy and Buster Alvord Brain Tumor Center, located at UW Medicine in Seattle, was established in 2009. It is the result of
six endowed chairs from the Alvord, Rhodes and Gerlich families to promote the vision of Dr. Buster Alvord, their husband, father and grandfather, to build a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing brain tumor research and, thereby, the care of patients with brain tumors.
The center is designed to promote outstanding interdisciplinary research and training among physicians and scientists in six UW Medicine departments:
- Medicine
- Neurology
- Neurological surgery
- Pathology
- Radiation oncology
- Radiology
The center's mission is to fuel collaborative basic, translational and clinical research into brain tumors and neurologic complications of cancer. Our shared goal is to advance knowledge of brain tumor biology and to use this new knowledge to improve the care of patients with brain tumors.
