The School of Medicine Office of Research and Graduate Education is involved in a variety of different activities on the University of Washington’s campus and with our external partners. Below RGE main activities and programs are outlined.
Vice Dean of Research and Graduate Education
- Research and space planning and development

- FHCRC/UW/CHRMC Cancer consortium planning
- Research cost center review
- Institutional liaison with organizations such as FHCRC, CHRMC, SBRI, SIBCR, The Graduate School

- Matching funds
- Limited grant opportunity selection (at campus level)
- Graduate education
- Development, and News & Community Relations liaison for key projects

Clinical Research Budget and Billing Office
- Analyze proposed clinical research studies to determine whether or not they are deemed qualified according to Medicare's Clinical Trials Policy
- Prepare and review clinical research study budgets
- Price billable hospital costs for research study budgets
- Liaison with Office of Sponsored Programs to assure efficient timelines
- Negotiate clinical research study budgets with industry sponsors
- Review clinical research study billing grids
- Insure that consent form language, contracts, and budgets are in conformance
- Insure that the appropriate research rates are used in billing
- Insure that all research subjects are registered in the central database
- Direct research charges to research accounts
