UW Medicine hospitals and programs rank high in U.S. News & World Report’s 2011 edition of America’s Best Hospitals.  UW Medical Center was ranked #13 in the nation overall, and has made the U.S. News national Honor Roll since the rankings began in 1990.

Patient Stories

Chris Marshall

Chris Marshall is the first patient in the Pacific Northwest to leave the hospital without a human heart. He received a Total Artificial Heart, powered by a portable driver that allowed him to be discharged. He awaits a transplant. Read more.

Roy Matsumoto, a World War II vet who earned the Congressional Medal of Honor, had a failing aortic valve but surgery posed too much risk. He received a replacement valve in a catheter procedure instead. Hear his story.
